Wait reviews?!?  Yes, reviews! Or, my version of reviews.  I began doing reviews a few months back on books.  Then, a friend of mine suggested I start actually doing reviews…like on my blog.

And that got me thinking…Why not? After all, the type of reviews I do would fit with my theme – seeking God in the stories we tell – quite nicely.

What’s a Blog Post Without a Bit of Background?

I’ve been trying to find some way to fit blogging in for awhile. At first I was going to do a recap of all the things that happened and changed since the summer of 2019. But there was just…So. Much.

And I didn’t have TIME. Or emotional energy. Both of those are in short supply when you have toddlers, and you need both to do that kind of self-reflection.

I’ve also been working on other writing endeavors, and the blog was just too much. But I didn’t want to give up on my blog.  It’s my voice.  A voice I’ve been cultivating and finding over these past two and a half years.

There are so many things I’m passionate about now that I wasn’t passionate about back then. There are so many people and ideas I want to advocate for that weren’t even on my radar. I’m not sure I’m ready to do all of that just yet in such a public forum…nor do I have the emotional energy to lay out my thoughts on a cohesive and in-depth manner.

But I’m constantly reading a variety of material – from histories to novels to comics.  And I watch TV.  Probably more than I should.  So….I’m doing reviews! (With “MyrmiGrades” of seashells!  Five seashell scale.  Even though seven IS the perfect number…)

Anyway, reviews of what, you ask?  Books, movies, TV shows, comics (specifically DC Comics).  Basically whatever speaks to me, whether it be good or bad.

About the Series

1. My normal blog format would have me making a series out of each book/movie/comic I write about. But I’m not going to do that. (Except maybe Frozen, but that’s because it has been crucial for my own journey.) Again, it just requires too much time and emotional energy. I will be focusing on my big takeaways, or one specific thing that really stuck with me.

2. This won’t be a series with regular entries.  I might post three things in a week.  Or I might not post for a couple months.  Most of my writing for these blogs comes from typing on my phone on Google Keep as my children run amok through the house.  I’m grateful I can eek out any time at all, honestly.

3. I will not necessarily be pointing out sinful elements in my reviews. I may mention them, but I won’t be dwelling on them or enumerating them. That’s what Plugged In is for. It’s a great source, and I use it. But I don’t need to replicate it.

4. As you may have noticed, I did a huge overhaul of my site…including the way I do subscriptions.  Because it’s been a hot minute since I wrote, I didn’t feel comfortable just transferring emails.  If you want to still receive emails, sign up on my home page (scroll all the way down). It’s a different world, and I’m a different version of me.  I assume you’re a different version of you.  Therefore, I’m starting from scratch on my subscribers.  If you’d rather catch it on Facebook, that’s fine, too. 🙂

That’s it!  I hope you enjoy!
