Review for Uncharted

I was cautiously optimistic going in, and honestly…it far exceeded my expectations!!! I was BLOWN AWAY!! It was so wonderful!! I seriously can’t get over how FUN it was. It was everything a treasure hunter-adventurer movie should be.

It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a movie this much. It was intense, but I was never scared for the heroes’ lives/dignity. (Which is rare. From Thor Ragnarok to Red Notice, movies often throw in the random bit of intimidation/torture/physical pain comedy, and I just don’t handle that well). The question was always “Will they get the treasure?” not, “Will they make it out alive?”

There was virtually no romance, but it didn’t need it. Again, a lot of movies just throw a random love scene in; even though I’m not necessarily opposed to that, it’s generally not needed and often ends up making both leads look crass. In Uncharted, it was just innocent, sweet flirtation. They even had the opportunity, but didn’t take it…which I REALLY respected.

Did I have any issues with it? Yes. One. It was absolutely devastating what they did to the 500 year old ships…but that’s the historian in me talking 😂.

To recap, I would highly recommend this movie, giving it an A+, gold stars, and unicorn sparkles! 🦄 ✨

Side note: I can’t speak to how it relates to the games, except the voice actor for Nathan Drake had a cameo. (And I only knew that thanks to Andrew 😂).

Seeking God in Uncharted

In 2019, I read Heaven by Randy Alcorn.  It was life changing.  Using scripture, he fleshed out a picture of a vibrant, exciting, adventurous heaven.

Call it weird, but this movie reminds me of that.  There is a sheer joy to this movie.  Yes, yes, Nathan, Sully, and Chloe are thieves.  Their enemies are murderers.  God clearly isn’t in that.  But this life is supposed to be an adventure!  We often miss that.  Thankfully, we won’t miss the endless adventures of heaven.  Obviously there will be differences (like no death); but the feeling will be there.  You know the feeling.  The yearning for something so exciting and wonderful and epic and beautiful to happen.

So go make it happen!  It may not be as *epic* as Uncharted.  But it doesn’t have to be.  Take mini family vacations to local attractions!  It doesn’t have to be expensive.  With toddlers, it’s honestly an adventure just going to the park – so turn it into one, rather than being annoyed at how much work it is! (I’m sooo guilty of that!)  Also, please note: adventures aren’t generally fun to the people in them; they’re only fun to be people hearing about them. 😆

So, go live this life full of adventure – and in anticipation for the next!
